Ricky Portera, nasce a Messina il 12/05/1954,con quella dose di follia che lo caratterizza. Figlio di una modella, Antonietta e di un maresciallo dei Carabinieri, ragion per cui, il giorno della Befana, come regalo all'Arma, chiedeva sempre una batteria, strumento che lo ha affascinato fin dalla tenera età. Non essendo stato possibile portare avanti questa sua velleità, mamma Antonietta, lo iscrive ad una scuola di canto, dove incontrerà per la prima volta Vasco Rossi. Da lì, anche i primi rudimenti sulla chitarra, strumento odiato da Ricky. Grazie al "tentato omicidio" della mamma, che gli rovinò sulla testa una chitarra, fortunatamente cartonata, cominciò la "passione" per lo strumento. Nel giro di tre anni, era già noto come "fenomeno" nel mondo musicale provinciale. A undici anni accompagna streap-tease, a tredici, dopo aver visto il film Woodstock, entra nel mondo del rock. Anni di sale da ballo che sono stati la palestra di Ricky. Anni dopo arriva Lucio Dalla. Partecipa ai primi dischi di Lucio, "Dalla "e "Lucio Dalla". Con "Banana Republic", è l'inizio dei grandi concerti negli stadi. Nell'80, con Curreri, Nanni, Pezzoli, Liberatori, fonda gli Stadio, che seguiranno Lucio Dalla per anni. Nel contempo, concerti e dischi con Vasco Rossi, Finardi, Bertè, Ron, De Gregori, Morandi, Freak Antoni, Turci, Alice, Masini, Tatangelo. Nel '90 esce il suo primo CD, edito dalla WEA "Ricky Portera", con musiche sue e testi di R. Casini e Iago Corazza. Nel 2007 esce "Ci Sono Cose...", dove comincia la sua introspezione, e comincia a scrivere i testi per se, facendosi guidare da esperienze e dall'osservazione di ciò che lo circonda. Nel 2014 esce "Fottili", disco di protesta, dovuto, ed era ora, ad una presa di coscienza politica. Nel disco sono presenti vari ospiti, da Curreri a Luca Madonia, da Pino Scotto a Pierdavide Carone. Nel contempo esce "Una Sera Con Lucio ", in collaborazione con l'amico Alberto Radius, dove Alberto rivisita quattro canzoni di Battisti, e Ricky di Dalla (Tu Non Mi Basti Mai, Ayrton, La Settima Luna, Vita), più una canzone del suo precedente album "Vicoli Di Modena". Esce nel 2018 la sua biografia, scritta da Paola Pieragostini, edita dalla Armando Curcio Editore, "Ci sono cose che non posso dire" considerato un "romanzo umanistico". Arriviamo nel 2021 ed esce un doppio vinile che raccoglie i brani dei suoi due precedenti CD più un inedito, che dà anche il titolo al lavoro "Prega Tu... Che Prego Anch'Io Per Noi". Il "lockdown" di quest'ultimo anno, è stato l'ispirazione per nuovi brani, che Ricky Portera pensa e crede si tradurranno in un nuovo disco completamente inedito.
