De wolken scheuren open, de lucht is rood als bloed
en ik zie in geestverrukking zeven monsters uit de gloed
van gloeiende as te voorschijn kruipen, grommend van genot,

De monsters stormen brullend weg, gepantserd en vuurvast
ze verduisteren het zonlicht met hun wolken uitlaatgas,
en maken van de zee ‘n poel met pek en D.D.T.,
en midden van die chaos zie ‘k de blauwe engel staan,
hij glimlacht heel ironisch en hij reikt ze alles aan.
Het monster met de vurige tong en met de witte boord
schudt met z’n schubben en ontsluit de seminariepoort
daar komen in een wierookwolk tien sprinkhaanduivels uit
ze dragen op hun koeiekop elk een injectiespuit
de naald is als een gloeiend zwaard waaruit de vonken slaan
ze fluiten liedjes van James Last als ze ten strijde gaan.
En dan zie ik dat uit de zee een machtig beest verschijnt;
-dat moet dan zonder twijfel de draak van Mao zijn-
elk van zijn zeven koppen draagt een godlasterlijke naam,
en voor elke kop zie ik ‘n massa in aanbidding staan
maar ijlings als ‘n bliksemflits verschijnt een tweelingbeest,
-alleen met groter tanden nog- en allen zijn geweest.
De vurige hellewagen wordt getrokken door de Bok,
de voerder zwaait triomfantelijk met het hoofd van Papadoc
maar daar komt reeds de engel Basiel Goedertier aan,
hij is de armen en de dwazen stil voorbijgegaan,
zet ‘n domper op de vuren, verft de lucht weer blauw
en bergt de monsters op in het rechtvaardigheidsgebouw.
En ‘t was of ‘k helemaal leeg was, of vol, zoals je wil
en alles was eenvoudig, en alles was weer stil,
ik zag alleen ‘n lammetje dat in de boomgaard stond,
het keek wat melancholisch, er kwam nevel uit de grond
ik voelde plots, als in een droom, twee armen om me heen,
deze engel nu heet Joke, dus ik kom er wel doorheen.
