Laura Nyro (1947-1997), born Laura Nigro, was an American singer-songwriter, composer, and pianist. Considered one of the greatest folk rock artists of the 1960s and 1970s, her music was characterized by catchy melodies, poetic lyrics, and a wide vocal range. Born in New York to Italian-American parents, she began composing songs at the age of 15. Her debut album, *Laura Nyro*, was released in 1966 and quickly achieved success thanks to the single *I Feel the Sun*. Throughout her career, she collaborated with artists such as Barbra Streisand (for whom she wrote the song *Happy Birthday*), Bette Midler, and The Fifth Dimension. Among her most famous songs are *Eli's Coming*, *Stoned Soul Picnic*, and *Wedding Bell Blues*. Nyro was awarded numerous Grammy Awards, including Best Song of the Year in 1970 for *This Girl's in Love with You*. Her music has influenced generations of artists and continues to be appreciated today.
