Margareth Menezes (born Purificação Costa on March 19, 1954) is a Brazilian singer, actress, and politician. Born in Salvador de Bahia, she is considered an icon of Bahian music and has significantly contributed to the global spread of the *axé* rhythm. Her musical career began in the 1970s with her participation in the musical group *Os Tincoãs*. In 1982, she released her first solo album, *Margareth Menezes*, which brought her immediate success. Over the years, she has collaborated with internationally renowned artists such as Gilberto Gil and Caetano Veloso. Her music is characterized by catchy rhythms, poetic lyrics, and a strong social component. Besides music, Menezes has also been involved in theater and politics, serving as Minister of Culture of Brazil since January 1, 2023.
