Phyllis Linda Hyman (March 20, 1949 – July 3, 1995) was an American singer and songwriter known for her work in soul, jazz, and R and B. Born in New York City, Hyman began her musical career in the 1970s, collaborating with artists such as Stevie Wonder and David Bowie. She is renowned for her powerful vocal range and emotionally charged performances. Her debut album, "You Know How to Make Me Feel", released in 1979, achieved commercial success. Among her most popular songs are "You Know How to Make Me Feel", "Don't Wanna Be a Player", and "Love Is the Answer". Hyman won numerous awards for her music, including a Grammy Award for Best Female R and B Vocal Performance in 1986. Her career was marked by both commercial success and critical acclaim, but also by personal struggles. Hyman tragically passed away at the age of 46 due to heart disease.
