Captain and Tennille are a husband-and-wife musical duo, Daryl Dragon (known as Captain) and Toni Tennille, who achieved immense popularity in the 1970s and 1980s with hits like "Love Will Keep Us Together", "The Way That I Want To Touch You", "Shop Around" and "Muskrat Love". They met in San Francisco in 1971: Toni was looking for a keyboardist for the musical she had co-written, Mother Earth. Daryl Dragon, former keyboardist for the Beach Boys, was recommended to her and after an audition, he was hired. After the show ended, he contacted Toni asking if she would join the Beach Boys tour as a pianist. Toni accepted and spent a year touring with them. At the end of the tour, they returned to California and started working as a duo in small clubs. Their professional relationship evolved into a personal one, and they gained a loyal following at The Smokehouse club in Encino. Toni had written a song for Daryl during the tour with the Beach Boys, "The Way I Want To Touch You", which described her growing feelings for him. They invested their own money to record the song and sent it to local radio stations, achieving surprising success. Requests for the song increased, and they received offers from several record labels, choosing A and M Records because they agreed that Daryl could produce the first album. The album "Love Will Keep Us Together" was a huge success, launching Captain and Tennille into global stardom. They married in 1975 in Virginia City, Nevada. After a long and successful musical career, they decided to retire from public life and live a quieter life in Arizona. Captain and Tennille remain one of the most popular and successful duos of all time, with a musical legacy that celebrates joy and the golden age of pop music.
