Nato a Easton, Pennsylvania, da genitori emigrati dall'Italia, Lanza ha dimostrato fin da giovane una straordinaria voce e talento musicale. Dopo aver studiato canto e recitazione, ha debuttato nel mondo dello spettacolo negli anni '40 con successo in teatro e radio. La sua carriera è decollata nel 1951 con il film "Il grande Caruso", dove ha interpretato il celebre tenore italiano, ottenendo un enorme successo di pubblico e critica. Lanza si è affermato come uno dei più grandi interpreti del melodramma lirico americano, capace di coniugare potenza vocale con una sensibilità espressiva unica.
