Juliette Gréco, born Juliette Laffont on February 7, 1927 in Istanbul, is a renowned French singer and actress. The daughter of a Greek father and an Italian mother, she spent her childhood between Istanbul and Paris. She began her musical career in the 1940s with jazz before dedicating herself to chanson after World War II. Her deep and intense voice, accompanied by poetic and often politically charged lyrics, has established her as one of the greatest interpreters of French music of the 20th century. Among her most celebrated songs are "La Javanaise", "Le Chant du Départ" and "L'Homme à la Guitare". Gréco has collaborated with prominent composers such as Jacques Prévert, Boris Vian and Charles Aznavour. Her artistic career has been marked by a strong political and social commitment, reflected in her songs and lifestyle. Throughout her long career, Juliette Gréco has received numerous accolades, including the César Award for Best Supporting Actress in 1978.
