Charles Trenet (Louis Charles Auguste Claude Trenet), born May 18, 1913, in Narbonne and died February 19, 2001, in Créteil, was a highly successful French singer-songwriter. His career began in the 1930s and reached its peak between the late 1930s and the mid-1950s, although it continued until the 1990s. Trenet distinguished himself by writing most of his songs, refusing to record songs composed by other artists during a period when it was rare for singers to write their own material.
