Astor Pantaleón Piazzolla (Mar del Plata, 11 marzo 1921 – Buenos Aires, 4 luglio 1992) è stato un musicista, compositore e arrangiatore argentino, considerato uno dei più importanti innovatori della musica tango. Nato in una famiglia di origini italiane, Piazzolla iniziò a studiare il bandoneón all'età di sette anni. La sua formazione musicale fu influenzata da diversi generi, tra cui il jazz, la musica classica e il folklore argentino. Nel corso della sua carriera, Piazzolla ha rivoluzionato il tango tradizionale, introducendo elementi moderni e sperimentali. Ha composto oltre 400 opere, tra cui concerti, balletti, canzoni e pezzi per orchestra. Tra i suoi brani più famosi figurano "Libertango", "Oblivion" e "Milonga del Angel". Piazzolla ha collaborato con numerosi artisti internazionali, tra cui l'Orchestra Sinfonica di Buenos Aires e il Quartetto d'Archi di New York.
