Chico Buarque de Hollanda, known simply as Chico Buarque, is a Brazilian singer-songwriter, composer, and writer born in Rio de Janeiro in 1944. Considered one of the most important exponents of música popular brasileira, he has managed to combine the Brazilian musical tradition with social and political themes of great relevance. His music, characterized by catchy melodies and poetic and incisive lyrics, has helped shape Brazil's cultural landscape in recent decades. Buarque was also an active political activist during the Brazilian military dictatorship (1964-1985), being forced into exile for his anti-regime positions. Among his most famous songs are "A Banda", "Construção", "O Que Você Quer" and "Roda Viva". The album "Falso Brilhante" (1970) is considered one of the masterpieces of Brazilian music.
