Pere Ubu is an American experimental rock band formed in Cleveland, Ohio, in 1975. Founded by vocalist David Thomas and guitarist Peter Laughner, the group underwent several lineup changes that included Allen Ravenstine, Scott Krauss (drums) and Tony Maimone (bass). Laughner left the band in 1976 to be replaced by Tom Herman. Pere Ubu is known for their experimental and provocative sound that blends elements of rock, punk, avant-garde and noise. Their music is characterized by dark and surreal lyrics, often inspired by American pop culture and exploitation cinema. Some of their most representative songs include "Street Waves", "Final Solution" and "Non-Alignment Pact". Their debut album, "The Modern Dance", released in 1978, is considered a post-punk classic.
