José Manuel Cerqueira Afonso dos Santos, in arte Zeca Afonso (Lisbona, 1929 – Lisbona, 1987), è stato uno dei cantautori più influenti del Portogallo. Considerato un'icona della musica popolare portoghese, ha intrecciato la sua musica con temi sociali e politici, diventando voce di una generazione in cerca di libertà e giustizia sociale. Afonso ha iniziato la sua carriera negli anni '50, collaborando con diverse orchestre e gruppi musicali. Nel 1964 ha pubblicato il suo primo album, "O Homem da Meia Noite", che lo ha lanciato sulla scena musicale portoghese. Le sue canzoni, spesso caratterizzate da melodie orecchiabili e testi incisivi, hanno affrontato temi come la povertà, l'oppressione politica e la lotta per i diritti civili. Tra le sue canzoni più famose ricordiamo "Grândola, Vila Morena", "A Minha Casa", "O Homem da Meia Noite" e "E Depois do Adeus".
