If it was hope
If it was rope
It was an alcove
Built on a slope
I got to you
Over drinks and Martinis
And slight overdue
We wait for our background
to sell us the news
How we got together
The night of the blues
Sitting at the bar
Initialling a star
Caught in the circle
Of going so far
Out the street was a cryer
The lights blew a fuse
How we got together
The night of the blues
Now that I know you
And you know me tooPanic forgives me
For trying to choose
The piano was dancing
The winds knew the tune
How we got together
The night of the blues
I made a hat
Out of newspaper runes
And you had a chat
With the man in the moon
We both had a chance
To exchange our views
How we got together
The night of the blues
How we got together
The night of the blues
Jackson Carey Frank (Buffalo, New York, March 2, 1943 – Great Barrington, Massachusetts, March 3, 1999) was an American folk musician. Frank began his musical career in the 1960s in New York City, performing at venues such as Gerde's Folk City and the Gaslight Cafe. His music was characterized by simple yet evocative melodies and introspective lyrics that explored themes of love, loss, and solitude. In 1965, he released his self-titled debut album, "Jackson C. Frank", produced by John Fahey. The album was critically acclaimed and helped introduce Frank to a wider audience. Despite his initial success, Frank retired from music in the 1970s to pursue a private life. He briefly returned to the music scene in the 1980s, releasing a new album in 1986. His music has influenced numerous subsequent folk artists, including Nick Drake and John Martyn. Frank died in Great Barrington, Massachusetts, at the age of 56.
