America is an Anglo-American folk-rock band formed in London in 1970 by multi-instrumentalists and vocalists Gerry Beckley and Dan Peek, and singer/guitarist Dewey Bunnell. The group achieved international fame with their number-one single "Horse with No Name". America is known for a sound characterized by catchy melodies, refined vocal harmonies, and influences from folk and country music. Among their most important albums are "America" (1972), "Homecoming" (1974) and "Hearts" (1975). The group released a series of hits throughout the 1970s, including "A Horse with No Name", "Ventura Highway", "Sister Golden Hair" and "Tin Man". Dan Peek left the group in 1977 for religious reasons. America continues to perform and record music with Gerry Beckley and Dewey Bunnell.
