Ennio Morricone (Rome, November 10, 1928 – Rome, July 11, 2020) was an Italian composer of international renown. Considered one of the greatest film composers of all time, Morricone wrote the soundtrack for over 400 films, including those by Sergio Leone such as *A Fistful of Dollars*, *The Good, the Bad and the Ugly* and *Once Upon a Time in the West*. His music, characterized by memorable melodies and epic arrangements, defined the aesthetic of the spaghetti western genre. Besides cinema, Morricone composed classical works, collaborated with pop singers like Mina and Laura Pausini and won numerous awards, including an honorary Oscar in 2016. Among his most famous soundtracks are *The Legend of Zorro*, *The Day of the Owl* and *Mission*.
