Ekhymosis was a Colombian rock band formed in Medellín in 1988 by Juan Esteban "Juanes" Aristizábal Vásquez, Andrés García, Fernando "Toby" Tobón and José David Lopera. Influenced by heavy metal acts like Metallica and popular Latin music, Ekhymosis achieved great success in Colombia during the 1990s with albums such as "Ecos del alma" (1994) and "El cielo no es el límite" (1996). The band disbanded in 2000. Juanes, after the separation of Ekhymosis, embarked on a highly successful international solo career.
