The Byrds were a highly influential American folk rock band active from 1964 to 1973. They played a significant role in the birth and popularization of folk rock with their distinctive sound, characterized by the pioneering use of the Rickenbacker 12-string guitar, known as "jingle-jangle". The group achieved international fame with their cover of Bob Dylan's Mr Tambourine Man, which became a global hit in 1965.
