Gladys Knight, known as "The Empress of Soul", is a legendary American singer and actress born in Atlanta, Georgia, in 1944. She began her musical career at the age of seven singing with her brothers in their local church. In 1960 she formed the group The Pips, with whom she achieved extraordinary success in the 1970s and 1980s. Their soulful vocal style, influenced by gospel and R and B music, made them one of the most popular musical groups of all time. Among their most famous hits are "Midnight Train to Georgia", "Neither One of Us (Wants to Be the First to Say Goodbye)" and "I Heard It Through the Grapevine". Gladys Knight has won numerous awards, including seven Grammy Awards, and her vocal talent has been recognized worldwide. Besides music, she has acted in films and television shows, demonstrating excellent artistic versatility.
