Biografia

Baaba Maal (born November 12, 1953) is a Senegalese singer and guitarist, born in Podor, on the Senegal River. In addition to acoustic guitar, he also plays percussion. He has released several albums, both for independent and major labels. In July 2003, he was made a UNDP Youth Emissary. Maal is considered one of the pioneers of mbalax music, a popular genre in Senegal that blends African musical traditions with Western influences. His songs often address social and political themes, promoting peace, equality, and sustainable development. Among his most representative tracks are "Djam Djam", "Wango Wango" and "Africa". In 2004, he collaborated with the renowned French musician Youssou N'Dour on the album "Egypt".
