Shocking Blue was a Dutch rock band from The Hague, Netherlands, formed in 1967. Their biggest hit, «Venus», reached number one on the Billboard Hot 100 in February 1970. The band had sold 13.5 million discs by 1973, but the group disbanded in 1974. Led by the powerful and recognizable voice of Mariska Veres, whose magnetic stage presence contributed to their international success, Shocking Blue explored a psychedelic rock sound with pop influences, characterized by catchy riffs and memorable melodies. Besides «Venus», other representative tracks include «Never Marry a Man with Short Hair» and «Send Me a Lover». The band released several successful albums, including «At the Top» (1969) and «The Shocking Blue Album» (1970).
