Laura Nyro (1947-1997), born Laura Nigro, was an American singer-songwriter, composer, and pianist. Considered one of the greatest folk rock artists of the 1960s and 1970s, her music was characterized by catchy melodies, poetic lyrics, and a wide vocal range. Born in New York to Italian-American parents, she began composing songs at the age of 15.
