The Impressions are an influential American vocal group from Chicago, formed in 1958. Considered one of the most influential soul groups of the 1960s, they helped define the genre's sound with their blend of doo-wop, gospel, and R and B. The group was led by the powerful and versatile voice of Curtis Mayfield, who wrote many of their most famous hits. Among their most representative songs: "People Get Ready", "Amen" and "It's All Right". The Impressions collaborated with producers like Sam Cooke and Jerry Butler, and have influenced generations of soul and hip-hop artists.
