Son of Marcus Aurelius and Faustina the Younger, he succeeded his father after a reign marked by peace and prosperity. However, Commodus proved to be very different from his father. His personality was described by historians as eccentric, cruel, and depraved. He indulged in fleeting, excessive, and often immoral pleasures, spending his time in lavish parties and orgies. His tyranny manifested itself in the persecution of political opponents and the indiscriminate execution of Roman senators and citizens. His paranoia led him to eliminate anyone who could threaten his power, creating an atmosphere of terror in Rome. His reign was marked by a series of excesses and violence that led to the decline of the Roman Empire. Commodus died assassinated in 192 AD, ending his reign of violence and madness.
