Diego Armando Maradona (Lanús, October 30, 1960 – Buenos Aires, November 25, 2020) was an Argentine footballer, manager and sports executive. Considered one of the greatest footballers of all time, Maradona dominated the world football scene in the 1980s with his extraordinary technical ability, vision of play and dribbling skills. With the Argentine national team, he was World Cup champion in 1986 in Mexico, scoring a legendary goal against England in the quarter-final match (the so-called 'Goal of the Century'). Maradona also led Argentina to second place in the 1990 World Cup in Italy. At club level, he played for teams such as Argentinos Juniors, Boca Juniors, FC Barcelona and Napoli, where he won numerous trophies, including the UEFA Cup in 1989 with Napoli. After retiring from playing football, Maradona became a coach, leading several teams, including the Argentine national team. His charismatic and controversial personality made him an iconic figure not only in the world of football.
