per cercare scampo alla morte
da lui si fece salvare,
così anche i neri lo odiarono,
giurarono vendetta
perché chi non era con loro
doveva morire in fretta.
In una notte di luna
l'uomo buono camminava
sopra il crinale di un monte,
che due valli divideva,
da una parte i bianchi lo spiavano,
pronti a colpirlo al cuore
dall'altra i neri stavano
per placare il loro furore.
Partirono due colpi assieme
cadde con gli occhi al cielo
sul suo sguardo stupito
si stese un lieve velo.
I neri felici esultarono
come i bianchi a loro volta,
ma essi non sapevano
che la pietà era morta.
