The Sword is an American stoner metal band formed in Austin, Texas in 2003. The core of the group consists of J.D. Cronise (vocals, guitar), who had previously played with the band Those Peabodys. After selecting several musicians, he found the definitive lineup with Kyle Shutt on rhythm guitar, Bryan Richie on bass and Trivett Wingo on drums. The Sword's music is characterized by heavy riffs, epic melodies and a sound inspired by classic heavy metal from the 1970s and 1980s. Among their most important albums are "Age of Winters" (2006), "Gods of the Earth" (2008) and "Apocryphon" (2012).
