Korn is an American nu metal band formed in Bakersfield, California, in 1993. Considered pioneers of the nu metal genre, they have profoundly influenced the music scene of the 1990s and 2000s. Their characteristic sound combines elements of heavy metal, funk, hip hop, and industrial, with lyrics often introspective and dark that explore themes such as pain, depression, and social alienation. The original lineup included Jonathan Davis (vocals), James "Munky" Shaffer (guitar), Brian "Head" Welch (guitar), Reginald "Fieldy" Arvizu (bass), and David Silveria (drums).
