In Flames is a Swedish melodic death metal band formed in Gothenburg in 1990. Considered pioneers of the Gothenburg sound, alongside fellow death metallurgists Dark Tranquillity and At The Gates, they have helped define this genre characterized by heavy riffs, catchy melodies, and often dark lyrics.
