Turisas is a Finnish folk metal band from Hämeenlinna, founded on May 1st, 1997 by Mathias Nygård and Jussi Wickström. The band's name derives from Iku-Turso, an ancient monster from Finnish mythology. Initially known as Köyliö, after a Finnish town, they released the demo *Taiston Tie* in 1997, now out of print. After the demo release, the band officially changed their name to Turisas. Their music blends elements of heavy metal with traditional Finnish melodies and instruments, creating an epic and engaging sound.
