Laurie Anderson (born Laura Phillips Anderson) is an American multidisciplinary artist known for her experimental music, innovative theatrical performances, and use of electronic technology. Born in New York City in 1947, she began her career in the 1970s as an avant-garde musician, blending elements of classical, jazz, and electronic music with poetic lyrics and surreal narratives. Her iconic performance "O Superman" (1981) brought her international fame, topping music charts and foreshadowing the use of synthesizers and sampling in pop music.
