Gaetano Domenico Maria Donizetti (Bergamo, November 29, 1797 – Rome, April 8, 1848) was an Italian composer, considered one of the most important opera composers of the 19th century. The son of a musician and choirmaster, Donizetti received a rigorous musical education from a young age. After studying in Bergamo and Milan, he moved to Naples in 1822, where he had the opportunity to collaborate with some of the greatest composers of the time. Donizetti composed over 70 operas, including masterpieces such as *Lucia di Lammermoor*, *L'elisir d'amore*, *Anna Bolena* and *Don Pasquale*. His works are characterized by brilliant melodies, refined orchestrations and librettos often based on romantic or historical stories. Donizetti was a master of bel canto, an Italian musical style that privileged the beauty of the voice and emotional expression. His music has had a lasting impact on the history of Italian opera and continues to be performed worldwide.
