Adagio is a French symphonic progressive metal band. Founded by Stephan Forte, the band's guitarist, Adagio is known for its music characterized by technical precision, dark, dense orchestration, complex lead work, and a driving rhythm section. With their 2006 studio album *Dominate*, the group introduced death growls to their sound. The fourth studio album, *Archangels in Black*, was completed with pre-production and mastering in autumn 2008. The album features nine tracks plus a Japanese bonus track. According to the band's website, the compositions are "the ultimate between melodic and extreme metal", and can be considered a more brutal version of *Underworld*. *Archangels in Black* was released in February 2009 through Listenable Records.
