Riz Ortolani (Riziero Ortolani), nato a Roma il 10 giugno 1926 e morto a Roma il 3 marzo 2014, è stato un compositore e direttore d'orchestra italiano di fama internazionale. Noto soprattutto per le colonne sonore cinematografiche e televisive, ha composto musiche per oltre 200 film, tra cui capolavori del cinema italiano come "La dolce vita" (1960) di Federico Fellini e "Il buono, il brutto, il cattivo" (1966) di Sergio Leone. Ortolani ha collaborato con registi di diverse epoche e generi, spaziando dal neorealismo al western spaghetti, dalla commedia all'horror. Tra le sue opere più celebri si ricordano "La canzone del sole", tema musicale del film "Il sorpasso" (1962) di Dino Risi, e "L'uomo che amava le donne", colonna sonora del film omonimo (1970) di Sergio Corbucci. Ortolani ha vinto numerosi premi per la sua musica, tra cui il David di Donatello nel 1964 per la colonna sonora di "Il giorno più bello" e il Nastro d'Argento nel 1968 per quella di "La notte dei serpenti" . La sua musica è caratterizzata da un mix di melodie orecchiabili, arrangiamenti orchestrali raffinati e influenze jazz e pop. Oltre alle colonne sonore cinematografiche, Ortolani ha composto anche musiche per teatro, balletto e televisione.
