Chris Cornell, born Christopher John Boyle (Seattle, July 20, 1964 – Detroit, May 18, 2017), was an American singer and musician. Known for his powerful vocal timbre and poetic sensibility, he achieved international fame as the frontman of Soundgarden, a Seattle grunge band that defined the sound of the 1990s. In addition to this success, Cornell collaborated with other important artists such as Eddie Vedder (Pearl Jam) in the project Temple of the Dog and formed Audioslave, a supergroup composed of members of Rage Against the Machine.
