Clémentine et Léon étaient bien.
Pendant qu'elle attendait les clients,

Réparait les horloges du quartier
A côté du cahier, des tampons,
Il y avait sur la caisse une corbeille de bonbons
Les coucous qui sonnaient du matin jusqu'au soir
Donnaient l'heure, la demie et le quart.
Clémentine eut deux fils de Léon,
Il fallut agrandir la maison,
On reprit pour pas cher sa boutique au voisin
Jusque-là les affaires marchaient bien
Mais la guerre est venue tout défaire,
Clémentine a pleuré pour ses fils et leur père
Les pendules ont cessé d'égayer la maison
Quand Léon s'en alla pour le front.
Clémentine a vendu ses bijoux
Accroché son alliance à son cou
Les enfants qui donnaient du travail à foison
Lui faisait oublier les saisons
les horloges arrêtées sur une heure
Attendaient le retour du soldat de son cœur,

Elle a dû se pincer pour y croire.
