Zachary Richard is an American singer-songwriter, guitarist, accordionist, and violinist of Franco-American descent. Born in Lafayette, Louisiana, in 1952, Richard is known for his American folk music infused with the Cajun and Creole culture of the region. His musical career began in the 1970s performing at local venues and folk music festivals. In 1980, he released his debut album, "Zachary Richard", which achieved moderate success. Richard is considered one of the pioneers of the Cajun Revival movement of the 1980s, contributing to bringing back the traditional Cajun and Creole music. His songs often deal with themes related to culture, identity, and the history of Louisiana. Among his most notable tracks are "Laissez les bons temps rouler", "The Cajun Song", and "Louisiana Blues". Richard has collaborated with numerous American folk, Cajun, and Creole artists, including Doc Watson, Clifton Chenier, and BeauSoleil. His music has been featured in films and television programs, helping to spread the musical culture of Louisiana worldwide.
