Nocturnus was an American technical death metal band formed in Tampa, Florida, in 1986 by Richard Bateman (bass) and Mike Browning (drums/vocals). Completing the initial lineup were guitarists Gino Marino and Vincent Crowley. Considered pioneers of the genre, Nocturnus profoundly influenced the death metal landscape of the 1990s with a sound characterized by intricate musical structures, dark atmospheres, and lyrics often inspired by philosophical and occult themes.
