Nocturnus was an American technical death metal band formed in Tampa, Florida, in 1986 by Richard Bateman (bass) and Mike Browning (drums/vocals). Completing the initial lineup were guitarists Gino Marino and Vincent Crowley. Considered pioneers of the genre, Nocturnus profoundly influenced the death metal landscape of the 1990s with a sound characterized by intricate musical structures, dark atmospheres, and lyrics often inspired by philosophical and occult themes. Their debut album, *The Key to the Necropolis*, released in 1990, is considered a classic of the genre. After a brief hiatus, the band released their second album, *Thresholds of Infinity*, in 1992. Throughout their career, Nocturnus has collaborated with artists such as Morbid Angel and Cannibal Corpse. Some of their most representative tracks include: "The Key to the Necropolis", "Thresholds of Infinity", "Astral Projection" and "Cosmic Entity".
