Velha da terra morena
Pensa que e j lua cheia
Vela que a onda condena
Feita em pedaos na areia
Saia rota
Subindo a estrada
Inda a noite
Rompendo vem
A mulher
Pega na braada
De erva fresca
Supremo bem
Canta a rola
Numa ramada
Pela estrada
Vai a mulher
Meu senhor
Nesta caminhada
Nem m'alembra
Do amanhecer
H quem viva
Sem dar por nada
H quem morra
Sem tal saber
Velha ardida
Velha queimada
Vende a fruta
Se queres comer
A noitinha
A mulher alcana
Quem lhe compra
Do seu manjar
Para dar
cabrinha mansa
Erva fresca
Da cor do mar
Na calada
Uma mancha negra
Cobriu tudo
E ali ficou
Anda, velha
Da saia preta
Flor que ao vento
No cho tombou
No Inverno
Ters fartura
Da erva fora
Supremo bem
Canta rola
Tua amargura
Manh moa
.. nunca mais vem

Considered an icon of Portuguese popular music, he intertwined his music with social and political themes, becoming the voice of a generation seeking freedom and social justice. Afonso began his career in the 1950s, collaborating with various orchestras and musical groups. In 1964, he released his first album, "O Homem da Meia Noite", which launched him onto the Portuguese music scene.
