I Jesus Lizard are a noise rock band formed in Chicago in 1987. The band, born from the ashes of the seminal Texan group Scratch Acid, took their name from the common English name for the Basiliscus basiliscus, a lizard that can run on water. Their sound is characterized by a mix of hardcore punk, noise rock and post-punk, with often dark and provocative lyrics. I Jesus Lizard collaborated with the independent label Touch and Go Records and producer Steve Albini, a key figure in the American underground music scene. Among their most representative songs are "Mouth Breather", "Then Comes the Pain" and "Boilermaker". The debut album "Lizard King" (1989) is considered a classic of the noise rock genre. The band disbanded in 1999, but returned to the studio in 2006 with the album "The Devastations of Modern Life".
