Mad Season was a grunge supergroup formed in Seattle in 1994. The core of the group consisted of Layne Staley, vocalist for Alice in Chains, and Mike McCready, guitarist for Pearl Jam. Completing the lineup were John Baker Saunders on bass (formerly of The Screaming Trees) and Barrett Martin on drums (known for his collaborations with The Screaming Trees and alt-rock). The band's only album, *Above*, was released in 1995. The album, characterized by a dark and melancholic sound, is considered a grunge classic and achieved critical acclaim.
