Bauhaus is a British band considered one of the pioneers of goth rock. Formed in Northampton in 1978, the original lineup included Daniel Ash (guitar), David J (bass), Kevin Haskins (drums) and Peter Murphy (vocals). Their first single, «Bela Lugosi's Dead», released in 1979, is considered by many to be the first goth rock song. The song, originally over nine minutes long, became a classic of the genre despite never charting in the UK. Bauhaus was known for its theatrical persona and Peter Murphy's ability to interact with the audience, feeding off the crowd's energy and tensions to enhance his performance. This made them a must-see live band and a favorite of the British music press. After disbanding in 1983, Bauhaus reunited on several occasions over the years, releasing new albums and continuing to perform successfully.
