Harold Melvin (Philadelphia, 1942 – Philadelphia, 1977) was an American singer and musician, best known as the frontman of the soul group Harold Melvin and the Blue Notes. His powerful and melodic voice helped make the group one of the most influential in the soul scene of the 1970s. Among the hits of Harold Melvin and the Blue Notes are "If You Don't Know Me by Now", a classic of the genre, and "The Love I Lost". Melvin was also an important collaborator with artist Teddy Pendergrass, who replaced him as lead singer of the group in 1976.
