Cafe on the left bank, ordinary wine
Touching all the girls with your eyes
Tiny crowd of Frenchmen round a TV shop
Watching Charles de Gaulle makes a speech
Dancing after midnight, sprawling to the car
Continental breakfast in the bar
English speaking people drinking German beer
Talking far too loud for their ears
Cafe on the left bank, ordinary wine
Touching all the girls with your eyes
Dancing after midnight, crawling to the car
Cocktail waitress waiting in the bar
English speaking people drinking German beer
Talking way too loud for their ears
Wings was a British rock band formed in 1971 by Paul McCartney after the breakup of The Beatles. The name of the group came from the nickname given to McCartney by his fans during the Beatles era. The sound of Wings was a blend of rock, pop and country, also influenced by American folk music. Among the most notable members besides McCartney were Linda Eastman (Paul's wife), Denny Laine and Jimmy McCulloch. 1973 saw the release of the album "Band on the Run", considered one of their most important works, with songs like "Jet" and "Helen Wheels". Wings released numerous successful albums throughout the 1970s, including "Red Rose Speedway", "Venus and Mars" and "At the Speed of Sound", achieving great popularity worldwide. In 1981 the group disbanded after a series of changes in the lineup. Paul McCartney continued his musical career as a solo artist, but Wings remains an important chapter in his history.
