The Band was a Canadian-American rock group formed in Toronto in 1967 and disbanded in 1976, before reuniting in 1983 until 1999. The original lineup consisted of Robbie Robertson (guitar), Richard Manuel, Garth Hudson, Rick Danko, and Levon Helm. Considered one of the most influential rock bands in American music, The Band rose to fame in the 1970s with a folk-rock sound characterized by complex orchestral arrangements and poetic lyrics. The deaths of Richard Manuel in 1980 and Levon Helm in 2012 marked the end of an era for The Band.
