The Taran Project were an ethnic folk music group from Calabria, Italy, formed in the 1990s. The project was born from the meeting of Mimmo Cavallaro, a musician and composer from Taranto, and Cosimo Papandrea, a singer and poet from Calabria. The two artists embarked on a musical journey focused on rediscovering and promoting Calabrian musical traditions, integrating them with jazz and world music influences. Their sound is characterized by original arrangements that blend traditional instruments such as the tarantella, zampogna, and flute with modern instruments like electric bass and drums. The Taran Project released several albums, including "Taranta" (1998) and "La Terra dei Tarantini" (2001), which achieved great success in Italy and abroad. The group participated in numerous international music festivals, contributing to the spread of Calabrian music worldwide. Mimmo Cavallaro continues to be active as a musician and composer, dedicating himself to musical research and experimentation.
