Roland Orzabal (born Roland Jaime Orzabal de la Quintana) is a British singer-songwriter and guitarist, best known as the primary songwriter and vocalist for the band Tears for Fears, which he co-founded in 1981 with bassist and vocalist Curt Smith. Born in Basildon, Essex, Orzabal began his musical career in the 1970s with several local bands before forming Tears for Fears. The band achieved international success in the 1980s with albums such as *The Hurting* (1983) and *Songs from the Big Chair* (1985), which produced global hits like «Shout», «Everybody Wants to Rule the World» and «Mad World». After the first breakup of Tears for Fears in 1991, Orzabal embarked on a successful solo career with several albums. In 2000, Tears for Fears reunited for a world tour and have continued to record and perform to this day. Orzabal is known for his catchy melodies, introspective lyrics, and his ability to blend elements of synth-pop, progressive rock, and new wave.
