(Il faut savoir)
Text/Music: Luciano Beretta / Charles Aznavour

Devi sapere ancor sorridere
quando il bel tempo se ne va
e resta solo la tristezza
e giorni d'infelicità.
Devi sapere
che in quest'angoscia
la dignità devi salvar
malgrado il male che tu senti
devi partir senza tornar;
preghi il destino che ti disarma
per pietà non mi far morir.
Devi sapere celare il pianto
ma il mondo è nato per soffrir.
Devi sapere lasciar la tavola
quando all'amor non servi più
alzarti con indifferenza
mentre in silenzio soffri tu.
Devi sapere celar le pene
e mascherare il tuo dolor;
tenere l'odio in te nascosto
e aver l'inferno in fondo al cuor.
Devi sapere restar di ghiaccio
pur se il tuo cuor brucia di rancor,
Devi sapere lasciar la vita
ma l'amo troppo ancor
e dirle addio non so
devi saper... però...
io non lo so!
