Sacramentum è stata una band black metal svedese proveniente da Falköping, fondata da Nisse Karlen (voce/chitarra) nell'estate del 1990 sotto il nome di Tumulus. Poco dopo, Anders Brolycke si unì come secondo chitarrista. La band ha cambiato nome in Sacramentum nel 1992 e ha pubblicato diversi demo prima di firmare con la label Black Mark Records nel 1996. Il loro album di debutto, *The Serpent's Chalice*, è stato accolto positivamente dalla critica e ha contribuito a consolidare il loro posto nell'underground black metal europeo. Sacramentum è stata attiva fino al 2003, pubblicando altri due album in studio: *Promo 1994* (1994) e *The Shadow of the Cross* (1998). Il loro stile musicale era caratterizzato da atmosfere cupe e malinconiche, con influenze provenienti dal doom metal e dall'avant-garde.
